Day 4 - What are you afraid of?
On a trip into London one day last year, my sister asked me if there's anything that I'm not afraid of! I think she may have a point. As I have gotten older, I find myself more afraid of things. I remember telling my mum this once and she said that she was the same. Her theory is that as we get older we are more aware of the dangers and therefore are more afraid of things.
So, here goes:-
I hate spiders and any creepy crawlies really. Especially ants, they really freak me out!

Behind the smile, my heart was racing being so near to the edge! |
I am afraid of heights. Actually, I don't think it's heights as such, more a fear of falling. I'm ok(ish) in a high place, but I can't be anywhere near the edge and I don't feel safe on things that look like they might break. My sister Helen got married on Table Mountain in South Africa and although it was a beautiful surrounding, I was rather apprehensive of the wooden ledge that we were stood on and wouldn't go anywhere near the edge! I was fine on a different part of the mountain where there was a high wall and I really loved looking at the view, but on the bit where the ceremony was held, I was terrified!
Even small heights get me. If my feet aren't firmly on the ground, then I panic. Ladders, steps with gaps in them, escalators, anything like that and I'm a nervous wreck.
Other things that I'm afraid of include through running trains when I'm at the train station, the Tube (subway) - I hate how fast you have to be to get on and off and with through running tubes I am gripping anything I can! I remember last year I went to the watch the Royal Wedding at The Mall with our Explorer Scouts and on the tube back I refused to get on as the 'door closing' notice was being said. I have a great set of Explorers and leaders though, when I got onto the next one, they all piled aboard at the next station where they had waited for me.
I hate crowds, I think I have a touch of claustrophobia as I panic when I'm in an overcrowded place. Not being able to breath 'fresh' air, as in I can't have anything over my face. Hubby will quite happily have the duvet completely over him in bed, I hate that as it doesn't feel that I am breathing in fresh air.
Lastly, my biggest fear, and probably the same one that every parent has - something bad happening to my children.
